Of Course You Think That

I'm not good enough. Who would pay me? That other person already does it better than me. What will my husband think of me? I don't have the money. What will my parents think of me? I don't even know where to start. What will my friends think of me? I don't deserve to make money. What will that random stranger that follows me on Facebook think of me? ...

Sound familiar?

I hear ya, sistah! Because I had those exact same thoughts.

And now here you are, thinking about starting a new business - or trying to get your first few sales - and you have all those damn thoughts flooding your mind.

Well, I have some good news for you.

Those thoughts are totally normal.

Of course you're going to think you're not good enough. You're just starting out and learning something new. You're not an expert - YET. But guess what makes you good enough? Putting yourself out there and offering your gifts to the world!

Of course you're going to wonder who would pay you. You don't have any hard evidence in your bank account - YET. But guess what makes people want to pay you? Sharing your message about how you can make their life better with your service or product.

Of course that other person already does it better than you. They've been working at it for years, and you're still new to the game - FOR NOW. But guess what? You do it DIFFERENTLY than that other person, because you are uniquely you!

Of course you care about what your husband thinks. You're in a relationship and a healthy partnership means considering the other person. But guess what? Your husband loves you and supports you, and you might be surprised by how the conversation will go. (Sidenote: If he's a dick about it, you still have your OWN permission to move forward to follow your dreams.)

Of course you think you don't have the money. It's terrifying to not know where your next paycheque will come from. But guess what? If it really means that much to you, you'll find a way to make it happen. It's never about the money. Trust me.

Of course you're worried about what your parents will think. They grew up in a different generation, and don't always understand the entrepreneur scene. But guess what? They don't have to be okay with your decision - they just need to trust you, as you trusted them for the 30-something years of your life.

Of course you don't know where to start. You've never built your own business before, so you can't expect to suddenly be an expert. But guess what? If you just do one small, consistent step forward at a time, you'll get yourself there. (Sidenote: invest in a mentor who has done what you're working to do - they have priceless insight that will get you to where you want to be waaayyy faster than if you try and make it on your own).

Of course you're worried about what your friends will think. You want to make sure you don't lose any friendships along the way. But guess what? Anyone who is your true friend will support you. And those who fall away in the process are meant to be left behind - you don't owe them anything.

Of course you think you don't deserve to make money. You've been TOLD what your salary or hourly wage will be for your whole life, so you're not used to the thought of abundance, and creating a limitless income. But guess what? You'll get used to it pretty damn quick when you're comfortably able to pay the bills AND go on vacation AND still put some money away into savings.

Of course you're thinking about what that random stranger that follows you on Facebook is thinking of you... wait - actually no, that one is just a silly thought - who gives a shit about what that random person thinks? It holds zero use for you to care about that, so just stop - haha!

You see what I'm getting at?

Of course you have all these thoughts.

And of course you're going to figure it out.

Because you're a badass fempreneur.

And if you're honest with yourself, you KNOW you're capable of doing this.

So trust the process. The answers will come. And if they don't - then go find them!

Because you can. And you WILL.

If you want it bad enough, you'll make it happen.

If you don't, you'll make excuses.

So how bad do you want it?

Calling All Fempreneurs

This week we're digging into the perks of being a fempreneur (or aspiring female entrepreneur, because maybe you're still sitting on the fence about it).

It's all too easy to get caught up in the BS of being a #LadyBoss - the daily "busy work" that sucks us in, if we're not careful. The time-wasters, the energy-suckers, the feeling of having to take it all on at once.

No, today we're pushing that crap to the side, and just exploring the amazing benefits of being a badass business woman!

Entrepreneurship can mean many things to many people, but here's my list of things that has me beyond grateful to call myself a fempreneur:

  • It means we've taken a big leap to believe in our abilities to MAKE IT HAPPEN
  • It means we're ready to take bold action in our business
  • It means we understand the importance of self-care and investing in ourselves
  • It means working with a coach to have support, encouragement and accountability
  • It means we're bigger than our fears
  • It means we have the financial support to allow us to leave the corporate world
  • It means we get to create our own schedules
  • It means we don't need to ask for permission from anyone else
  • It means we can take vacation days without needing a sign-off from management
  • It means we can create an office space for ourselves that inspires creativity
  • It means we get to set goals for ourselves that align with our values
  • It means we can spend more time doing the things most important to us
  • It means we get to build a business by being ourselves
  • It means we're stepping into what we're truly capable of
  • It means we're allowing ourselves to be called to more
  • It means we are in control of our lives
  • It means we get to serve our purpose
  • It means we get to build our business our own way

It means we get to create our ideal life and experience the freedom we deserve!

Sure, there's tough parts about being an entrepreneur - but in the grand scheme of things, those are just blips on the radar.

When your income is based on how many people you're helping with your product or service, that is a wonderful thing.

What better drive, than to serve others and offer them an opportunity to improve their life - all while building a business you can be proud of?

That's Some Scary Shit

I want to take a moment and get real, raw and honest with you. Since one of the main goals I have is to live authentically (hence the name of my business, Authentic Soul Coaching), you can be sure that I'll always be honest and true to myself when writing these blogs. And that's no different for today's topic, which is: Building your own business is some scary shit.

You really have to look yourself in the eye and determine what you're made of. It's one thing to sit back and dream about your own business, and maybe even draw out some plans. If you're anything like me, you probably have hundreds of pages of ideas, topics, things you want to share and ways you want to help - but until you actually put them into action, your business is just a hobby. Until you are getting paid, it's a hobby. And that, my friends, is terrifying.

I just publicly announced last week that I'm a Life Coach. Until then, my business was just a hobby. Sure, I coached people prior to that - but it was for free, doing what I naturally do - offering a non-judgmental ear, a shoulder to cry on, the support you needed to get through whatever it was you were struggling with. Now I'm a certified coach - I have kick-ass tools and ninja coaching techniques that help you navigate your goals, to actually conquer what you want to achieve. I'm a legit business now - being my own boss, with the ability to grown my business how I want. Life is good.

But I still have fear holding me back. And I've learned to realize that's a GOOD thing! If I don't have any fear, then I'm playing too small. If I don't have fear, then I'm not doing it right. To be a business owner, you need fear - and you need to learn how to harness that fear and use it to propel you through to the other side. You've probably heard the saying, "everything you want is on the other side of fear", and when you're growing your business, that couldn't be more true.

You're fearful of whether you're making the right decisions. You're fearful that people won't like you. You're fearful that no one will buy your service or product. Fuck, we even fear people are judging us while we create free content for them about dealing with their own fear! It's all around us. And it's glorious!

Once you learn how to hone your fear, and channel it in a way that's useful to you - it's a whole new ball game! You start looking at fear in a new light - one that you embrace, instead of cower away from. Fear is a great way to overcome indecision - it essentially forces you to make a decision, one way or the other. You either stay where you are, and let your dream fade - or you decide to grow, and step into your fear, knowing you'll be better for it.

Yes, being a business owner is some scary shit - but so is the thought of never living your dream.
