The Importance of Collaboration: 3 Reasons You Should Collaborate

Last Friday, I was featured with Heather Hartman Coaching on her 'Real, Raw & Uncut AF - Live Spotlight Series'. I was so excited to be highlighted as her VERY FIRST EPISODE, as we discussed the importance of self care as a female entrepreneur.

It was an honour to be asked by Heather to be on her show (which also included having this nifty graphic shared all around Facebook) - because Heather is someone I truly admire and who also encourages women to step into what they're capable of.

While working with Heather in preparation of this episode, we naturally chatted about the importance of collaboration with other like-minded women.

Running your business - especially if it's mostly done online - can sometimes feel isolating.

When you're first starting out, it's typically just you in your office - by yourself, without a team.

And while having the freedom and flexibility to be your own boss is one of the main blessings I'm so grateful for - it can also mean that sometimes you feel lonely, without being surrounded by co-workers, like you're used to in the corporate world.

(But don't get me wrong - I still wouldn't go back to corporate, haha.)

With that being top of mind this week, I've compiled a short list of the top three reasons to collaborate with other women:

1. You may be surprised by what you can learn from seeing the way other women manage their business.

Checking out how someone else runs their business can be an awesome learning experience.

You can very easily learn a new trick to get better organized, to reach your target audience more effectively, or even to approach self-care more regularly.

Talking with other fempreneurs about what's working for them is a perfect opportunity to test out, and potentially adopt, some new behaviours in your own business to become more efficient.

2. Encouraging and supporting other women feels amazing!

If you're having a shitty day and feeling down on yourself, one of the best ways to pull yourself out of that funk is to love on some other ladies that you admire.

Comment on how they rocked their Facebook Live, or how delicious their breakfast looked in that photo on Instagram, or how fab their DIY board is coming along on Pinterest.

Spread love to others, and before you know it, you'll be in a much better mood - and can be proud of yourself for supporting your sisterhood.

3. It makes you feel like you actually have a support system in place.

I'm not gonna lie - my husband isn't the first one I turn to when I have questions about my business.

And it's not because I don't trust his opinion, it's because he's not currently growing a business, so why would I ask his expertise in that department?

When I have questions, or want to bounce ideas off people, I turn to the women who are also building businesses, just like me - because they GET IT.

They understand the struggles and challenges, and they can offer advice that is relevant, because they've been there.

And I offer my experiences too, when asked - because it's great to have the opportunity to contribute back to those women helping me.

Calling All Fempreneurs

This week we're digging into the perks of being a fempreneur (or aspiring female entrepreneur, because maybe you're still sitting on the fence about it).

It's all too easy to get caught up in the BS of being a #LadyBoss - the daily "busy work" that sucks us in, if we're not careful. The time-wasters, the energy-suckers, the feeling of having to take it all on at once.

No, today we're pushing that crap to the side, and just exploring the amazing benefits of being a badass business woman!

Entrepreneurship can mean many things to many people, but here's my list of things that has me beyond grateful to call myself a fempreneur:

  • It means we've taken a big leap to believe in our abilities to MAKE IT HAPPEN
  • It means we're ready to take bold action in our business
  • It means we understand the importance of self-care and investing in ourselves
  • It means working with a coach to have support, encouragement and accountability
  • It means we're bigger than our fears
  • It means we have the financial support to allow us to leave the corporate world
  • It means we get to create our own schedules
  • It means we don't need to ask for permission from anyone else
  • It means we can take vacation days without needing a sign-off from management
  • It means we can create an office space for ourselves that inspires creativity
  • It means we get to set goals for ourselves that align with our values
  • It means we can spend more time doing the things most important to us
  • It means we get to build a business by being ourselves
  • It means we're stepping into what we're truly capable of
  • It means we're allowing ourselves to be called to more
  • It means we are in control of our lives
  • It means we get to serve our purpose
  • It means we get to build our business our own way

It means we get to create our ideal life and experience the freedom we deserve!

Sure, there's tough parts about being an entrepreneur - but in the grand scheme of things, those are just blips on the radar.

When your income is based on how many people you're helping with your product or service, that is a wonderful thing.

What better drive, than to serve others and offer them an opportunity to improve their life - all while building a business you can be proud of?

Community Over Competition

Women can be bitches to each other. For some reason, we feel the need to compare ourselves to each other, and if we feel threatened in any way (by a story we tell ourselves), we find anything about the other person that we can put down, in the hopes of lifting ourselves up in the process. But the problem with that is people who are judgmental have their own baggage that stems from, so it doesn't really make them feel better in the long run. Plus, what's the point?!

Through coaching, one of my goals is to help women understand how uniquely amazing they are. Each of us are special in our own way - and that's why there's no point in competing with one another. We are all unicorns! I could be standing beside another Life and Wellness Coach, who is also offering great programs for female entrepreneurs to create work / life balance for themselves - but it's our unique personalities that will attract clients to each of us. Some may choose to work with me, and some may choose to work with her - but we can still still support and encourage each other along the way in building our businesses!

The sisterhood that is created between like-minded women is one of the most powerfully beautiful things I have ever seen. Together, we can help a fellow sister - or Authentic Soul Sister, as I like to call them - go from having a shitty experience, to realizing she has a whole community of ladies happy to support and encourage her. Her tribe is there to inspire her - through happy times and sad times (because we all know life isn't always sunshine and rainbows).

Putting community over competition is so important for your own personal development. If you don't have your own tribe - or even if you do, and are looking to add to it - you're welcome to join our Authentic Soul Sisters private Facebook group; it's a safe place for badass women like you, who want a connection to positivity and a strong and supportive sisterhood.

When we choose to love each other, and come from a place of kindness and service, we are creating an unbreakable bond of empowered women - who, together, are unstoppable!
